ABOUT ME

 

Kathy Vavro, MEd, LSW, PC-SKathy has worked in the mental health profession for over 30 years.  She is a LIcensed Social Worker and a Professional Counselor with a Supervisory Endorsement in the State of Ohio.  She has a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, a Master's degree in Counseling, and meets the Ohio Supreme Court recommended mediaton training (Basic, Family/Divorce, Domestic Violence Issues).

Currently Kathy specializes in cousneing with adults, couples, and families, as well as mediation and collaborative work for familes and divorce.  She also works with adults and children regarding divorce recovery issues.


Kathy has extensive experience in both administrative and direct service roles in the arena of mental heatlh and has worked for several key mental health organizations in the Lake County community, including as Chief Program Officer at a Lake County behavioral health organization.  Much of her adminstrative work has focused on program development and implementation, including grant writing.  Her program development  has earned local, state and national recognition, including:
  • 2007 Child Advocate of the Year:  awarded by the Lake County Commissioners and nominated by the Lake County Department of Job and Family Services, Child Protective Division;
  • 2006 Wernert Award:  a national Behavior Healthcare Award for a Comprehensive Continuum of Early Childhood Services;
  • 1996 Prevention Program of the Year Award: awarded by the Ohio Department of Mental Health for the Families Under Stress Program;
In additon to her work with ANOTHER WAY:  Mediation & Consultation Services , Kathy is a professor at Lakeland Community College and teaches courses related to the field of human services.  Kathy also provides consultation and training on topics including Collaboration with Child Welfare Systems, Early Childhood Services, Infant Mental Health, Developemental Assets, Conflict Resolution, Teambuilding and Mediation with Couples and Families.  She also serves as a consultant for Danya International.
